Medium-severe head-on collision

Only the emergency tensioning retractors are triggered.

The ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) registers medium deceleration (first threshold) due to a collision.

The triggering pulse is transferred only to the ETR squibs
(R12/1, R12/2), because the restraint function of the seat belts in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors is sufficient to effectively protect the vehicle passengers for this type of accident.
On vehicles with OSR (front passenger seat occupied recognition sensor) or ACSR (front passenger seat occupied recognition sensor with automatic child seat recognition) a check is made whether the front seat is occupied.
If the front seat is not occupied or a child seat not recognized the airbag, side airbag and emergency tensioning retractor on the passenger side are not triggered.
On version vehicles and vehicles up to 6/93 a check is made whether the seat belts are fastened. If a seat belt is not fastened and the first actuation threshold is exceeded the driver/passenger airbag is triggered to provide sufficient protection for the vehicle passengers without fastened seat belts

The ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) recognizes high deceleration of the vehicle due to a collision. It transfers the triggering pulse to the driver and passenger airbags.
Parallel to this the emergency tensioning retractors are also triggered
(see figure "Medium head-on collision").

On vehicles with OSR or ACSR a check is made whether the passenger seat is occupied.
